Are the companies listed in the directory Halal Certified?
Food companies and producers/suppliers listed in this Directory, claim current halal certification status with one or more of the organisations operating in Australia. While due care has been taken to check that companies have halal certification when registering to be listed in the directory, buyers should also satisfy themselves of the current halal certification status prior to engaging in any commercial business or trade.

As a producer of Halal food products, how do I get my products certified ?
Certification is carried out by one of the certifying organisations in Australia. The contact details and brief description of their organisation is found by selecting the 'Find an organisation" icon located on the left side of your screen. Certification is provided for the food products. Procedures vary but usually include an application form, site inspection & discussion, and ongoing supervision by representatives from the certifying organisations during the production of halal products. A certification fee is charged. Certification is for a defined period and needs to be updated.

Can you provide a list of Certified Halal foods?
If you have a look at the Halal web site, you will note that it lists the manufacturers who produce halal food products. All of them produce halal products and have Halal certification by relevant organisations and this means that all ingredients used in the products irrespective of what they are, should be halal approved. If you are looking for a list of halal retail products that you can purchase from the supermarket ..... unfortunately we do not have such a list. You will have to rely on the label declaration (ie Halal symbol) or if you are looking for something specific, we suggest you contact the relevant companies listed in the directory to find out the outlets for their specific products. Alternatively, you could contact the halal organisations in the various states for guidance on this matter as they may have such a list. The contact details of some Halal organisations can be found on this website by selecting the 'Find an organisation' icon l

I have a question regarding Ricotta cheese. I am told by a fellow Muslim women that this product is not Halal as it contains rennet used in cheeses. Could you please advise me where I could find out if this product makes the cheese haram?
It is not possible to make a blanket claim about each an every Halal manufacturers product as each manufacturer has their own process and recipe. At the same time however, companies that claim Halal status can only do so if they have had Halal certification by organisations such as the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils Inc (AFIC), Islamic Coordinating Council of Victoria Inc (ICCV), Halal Certification Authority Australia (HCAA), Australian Halal Food Services Trust or an equivalent Muslim body. Each certifying body has their own process, but essentially the companies must demonstrate the use of Halal ingredients and satisfy these bodies that they are producing the products in accordance to Halal requirements. In order to provide further assurance however, it is recommended that you approach the relevant company and ask them if the products are being made according to Halal procedures.

I have a site related to 'Muslim issues in general' Can I have it linked to the Halal web site?
This Directory is a project of the States’ Alliance (Food Industry), State Governments of Australia. The objective of this directory is to provide international and domestic buyers ready access to information on the (non retail) suppliers of Australian halal foods. As such, it cannot contain links to websites other than those listed in the Directory or recognised government agencies.

What is the system of halal food certification in Australia ?
Australia has more than 15 organisations that can provide certification of halal foods. All subscribe to the principles of Islamic dietary law, but there is no one, single “authority”. These organisations range from substantial community Councils to small independent businesses. All of the organisations operate on a commercial basis and users of their services need to consider not only the cost of certification procedures but also the acceptance of each organisation’s certification in specific markets of interest.
